Brush up on Dental

By Eric Waters
Principal Financial Group

Bonjour from Montreal! The Dental Committee is brushing up to take a more prominent role in future GUAA meetings. Many of our members expressed a willingness to help push this forward. Our goal is to bring more sessions geared to what our members want to discuss - DENTAL!

The Committee hosted two dental sessions in Montreal; both were excellent and touched upon some great topics to further explore in our upcoming meetings. Andy Verdooren, Fortis, led a "Let's Talk Shop" session that included conversations relating to dental leaders (facts and figures), voluntary insured products, underwriting focus, and technology. Many carriers were present and identified potential future topics. The "Let's Talk Shop" sessions are always a good way to have an informal conversation to address industry news relevant to the participants.

Scott Breakstone, Glaxo/Block Drug, led a session on "Presenting New Treatment, Technologies, and Reimbursement Considerations." Scott discussed the challenges facing new treatments to be accepted by the FDA, dentists, patients, carriers, and the American Dental Association. He also shared new technologies, and hit on the "hot buttons" in dentistry today and finished with a case study.

We are putting together great sessions for our upcoming conference in Charleston, South Carolina with sessions on the state of dentistry and insurance (as told by a dentist), multi-product specialty underwriting (the pros and cons), voluntary dental (how big of a bite will it take!)s and of course, the "Let's Talk Shop" sessions. If you have other topics that you would like to see presented, please send an email to Eric Waters at waters.eric@principal.com.

Thanks to all that volunteered to help this Committee better serve its members. Oh yeah, one more thing, brush and floss regularly.
